ROAM 639 opened

On Saturday 27th September 2014 ROAM 639 was officially opened by the Mayor of Waverley. ROAM 639 is a new permanently waymarked trail in & around the Devil's Punchbowl, Hindhead, Surrey that was designed by Ian (of gearsandtears) to compliment the existing waymarked trails in the area & to raise awareness of muscular dystrophy.

The launch was marked by a small group of runners taking part in a series of runs organised by Ian: The Bowl (10 loops of the 6.39mile circuit); The Half Bowl (5 loops) & the Saucer (3 loops). Other runners (coached athletes & friends) joined in the celebrations by running 1 or 2 loops. Due to some withdrawals only one runner, Andy Collings, was brave enough to start the Full Bowl. Regretably Andy wasn't able to secure a finish on this occassion but put everything he had & some more into the event. His determination & commitment were huge.

The Half Bowl was won by James Simpkin in a time of 7hrs 4mins.

The Saucer was won by Claire Doherty in a remarkable time of 3hrs 3mins.

Both winners took home specially commissioned glass bowls crafted by Naomi Richards of 'My Little Glassroom'.

Congratulations to Claire & James on their wins & huge thanks to everyone who helped make the trail a reality & the launch such a positive day.
